A Cube Alternative

Interior Concept

Autodesk Maya, Mental Ray

A workspace alternative to standard cubes, while retaining functionality.

Asked to concept a flexible workspace system, I sketched ideas of an option which is still modular, yet provides privacy while encouraging collaboration.

The Guppy

Vehicle Concept

Autodesk Maya, Mental Ray

Concept model of an original spacecraft design. Responsible for concept, development and modeling.

One day while brainstorming for a completely different project, I had ideas of a very silly spacecraft: I found it fun, and took my rough thumbnail sketches and used those as my guide for the modeling in Maya.

There are no classes available for me in Maya locally: I am entirely self-taught up to this point, having secured a practice copy of the software. I have been thrilled about 3D ever since. My background in product work was a natural fit, as I can “think” in 3D. In the right environment, my potential is limitless!

Mountain Slope Cabin

Architectural Concept Design

Autodesk Maya, Mental Ray

Concept model of an original vacation home design.

Architecture has been a life-long passion of mine, and I’ve been generating ideas for cabins, homes and other structures since helping my dad inspect properties as a little kid. I began with rough birds-eye sketches and used them as a guide for modeling.

Survival Knife

Game Prop Concept

Autodesk Maya, Mental ray

Concept model of an original survival knife design.

As a casual gamer and someone with an imagination that does not shut off, I thought of this knife one day. Beginning with very loose thumbnail sketches, I used them as a kind of guide for modeling.

Baking Station

Kitchen Work Table Concept

Autodesk Maya, Mental ray

Concept model of an original kitchen work table design, with rolling pin prop.

I’m an avid cook and so is the gal in my life. Based on our baking needs I conceived of a functional, and easy to clean, baking table with quick access to recipe books. I began with rough sketches, using them as a guide for modeling.

Cross-Vent

Running Hat Concept

Autodesk Maya, Mental Ray

Concept model of an original running hat design. Images show the process beginning with original thumbnail sketches from my sketchbook.

I’ve been multi-sport guy my whole life, and overheat easily. Working as a designer with the Sahalie Active/outdoor apparel group, I had an idea for a well-vented cap with reflective accents. I began with sketches and intended this as modeling practice.
